Year of the Rabbit
We welcomed this tranquil year after the ferocious challenges of the Tiger Year. This congenial year bestows good taste and refinement, diplomacy and compromise. This temperate Rabbit year moves us to act with discretion and exercise the fine art of persuasion.
The Rabbit Year is so fortunate; it tends to spoil us with too much comfort. Beware the desire for excessive self-indulgence. The Rabbit’s unhurried and carefree pace may lull us too long in deferring difficult or unpleasant tasks. But, money in this year will come more easily and there will be more time for leisure. The fortunate Rabbit brings a Happy Year.
What is the Year of the Cat?
In the Vietnamese Zodiac, the Year of the Rabbit is the Year of the Cat! It has been thus for almost 2,700 years!
In the related Vietnamese Zodiac, the Cat may take the place of the Rabbit because the Chinese symbol 卯 for the Rabbit sounds like (mão, mẫu, méo, mẹo, mẻo); the word “mẹo” is cat in Vietnamese. Therefore, Cat may have been translated from Chinese to Vietnamese as fourth zodiac sign instead of Rabbit. Some scholars surmise that the cat was simply a more familiar animal than the rabbit in 600 B.C. in Vietnam.
Where is the Cat in the Chinese Zodiac?
That the Cat was left out of the Chinese Zodiac is the stuff of early legend. There are several versions of the legend and they all include the crafty Rat!
